The Sisterhood Standard: The Companionship Code

Hey loves!

Happy new year and I hope you are all well!

Last time you visited my little corner, we discussed friendships and the beauty of embracing the girls around you.

Because many of you loved it, I thought we’d dive deeper into the topic.

Coincidentally I’ve seen lots of friendship-related Tiktoks on my FYP surrounding the notion of having close ones show up for you and having people to spend intense quality time with.

On a slightly random note, a new pet peeve of mine is when people start feeding you unsolicited advice while chatting absolute nonsense on TikTok. Surely, I’m not the only one who finds this frustrating???

Tell me you know what I’m talking about or is it just me? 🧍🏿‍♀️

One video that stood out recently, was someone expressing how much they longed for a friend to just hang out with. Nothing fancy, just someone to sit with, embrace their presence, or run errands together.

I’m not going to lie but I hear it. It’s the little things. I don’t know about you, but I know I care about the little things. For me, those quiet, intentional moments are everything. I spend a lot of time reflecting, so I naturally value them. It’s okay to care, it really is.

I feel like pride can often get in the way of relationships, but being vulnerable is a strength. I’ve come to understand this recently - like, I properly internalised this two days ago.

You know when they say you learn every day, you do.

Anyways back to my discussion.

Depending on the depth of your friendships, you might happily tag along for something as mundane as errands, take food shopping for instance. I’m the same way. For my friends reading this, just call me, you know where I am. Some of you could even turn up at my door unannounced and I’d be cool with that, I’d probably be confused but it’s fine… come on in 🤭

Off topic but one of you guys even promised me an apple crumble almost two months ago, to this day I am yet to receive said apple crumble 😭

Anyways back to my discussion again.

So my next point: those TikToks about showing up for friends and the whole “If you don’t do it for me, I won’t do it for you” debate.

And not going to lie - I hear it. I get it. If you’re selfless and genuinely compassionate towards someone, but they don’t reciprocate, it can be disheartening. It’s understandable to feel like your efforts weren’t valued.

So, here’s my question: Are we being intentional with our friendships? It’s easy to feel like things are one-sided, but we need to be mindful of one another.

It’s tough when someone you consider a friend makes you feel this way. Personally, I try until I can’t anymore, but I’ve learned it’s okay to let go. Friends come and go, and if you pray for purposeful, empathetic people, they’ll find their way into your life.  Just be patient.

Trust me on this - God’s timing is always perfect. October last year, I met someone amazing. We were work colleagues, and she made my job so enjoyable. Our shifts flew by because of how well we got along. Even now that I’ve left that job, we’ve built a beautiful and sacred friendship. I’m so thankful for her. She’s honestly an angel, and she’s actually been pleading for me to release a new blog, so I know she’ll be over the moon when she reads this.

Keep your friends close, pray for them, and show your appreciation.

On another note, have you noticed how much emphasis there is on having a powerful and driven 2025? Social media is buzzing with everyone setting goals and chasing success.

Meanwhile, I’ve been freestyling my version of ‘75 Hard’ and just doing my ting. So far, it’s working for me, and I’m determined to keep it up.

If you’re partaking in ’75 Hard’ or any personal challenges, good luck! I hope you stay consistent and reach your goals and go beyond. I’m curious to see how it all pays off for you in the end. 🩷

With love and curiosity,

Just Jenni
